By 2014, the Denver Language School (DLS) had outgrown it's original campus, and a temporary second campus was opened at a local church.
The facilities committee continued to look for a permanent solution during the three years that the church was used by students.
When the Gilpin campus became available, Denver Public Schools (DPS) announced a competitive application process for the many schools in the
district in need of space. The process included a formal application, two presentations for DPS representatives and neighbors near the empty campus,
a recommendation by the DPS committee to the superintendent, a recommendation by the superintendent to the Board of Education, and then a formal vote
by the Board.
DLS was awarded the contract in December of 2017, and the new campus opened in August of 2018.
